We are an all-girls squad. We do not compete. We cheer at all football games and all home basketball games. Practice will be on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-4:30pm.
There are 8 available positions for base cheerleaders, 4 available positions for back spots and 4 available positions for flyers. Scores will be kept in three separate categories, and the best in each category (8 base positions, 4 back spots positions & 4 flyer positions) will make the squad.
Points will be awarded based on fitness, performance of the Northwest fight song and a cheer, a toe touch, and stunting. The fight song and cheer will be taught during the Friday night session. Additional points will be based on your current or most recent cheer sponsor’s recommendation.
The minimum stunting requirement is an extension, but a lib/stretch is preferred. Obviously, a clean, preferred stunt will award higher points and offer a better chance of making the squad.
First cuts will be made after the first session of tryouts, Friday night. Participants must be able to demonstrate basic techniques of stunting.
Scholarships are available to all students who make the squad. If you live on campus, you will receive $1000 scholarship per semester. If you commute, you will receive $850 in scholarship per semester.
