Northwest Mississippi Community College Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) students from DeSoto Center attended the Collegiate Leadership Academy in New York City Nov. 6-10. "Where Today's Students Become Tomorrow's Leaders" was the theme of the 2008 program.
Attendees were broken down into case-study teams and through defined company visits, corporate leader interviews, and behind-the-scene tours, had all their questions answered regarding the latest industry information. On the final day of the conference, the teams presented their case-study solutions to a panel of industry leaders and the National Advisory Board.
“Throughout the weekend experience, these students gained valuable teamwork and leadership skills as they navigated the streets of New York City and handled the challenges and learning that comes from working with a team,” said Katherine Mistilis, DEX adviser.
DEX develops future leaders in marketing and distribution. Enrollment is limited to Marketing Management Technology and Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology students. Club members have the opportunity to work with local business establishments, the Chamber of Commerce and other free enterprise organizations on projects and local marketing studies, and to compete on state and national levels in events centered around leadership and marketing skills.
