Upholstery class offered in January
Learning to re-upholster furniture could be the answer for a fresh look in the home this spring. The Division of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College is offering Upholstery 101, Wednesdays, Jan. 14 - Feb. 11, 6-8 p.m. in the Art Building, Room 305 on the Senatobia campus. January classes offer Continuing Education Units
Several different continuing education credit classes will be offered in January, according to Patricia Lowder, coordinator of Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Division of Continuing Education.

Local artist to offer landscape painting class
Locally renowned artist Lane Tutor will offer a landscape painting class through the Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Continuing Education, according to Patricia Lowder continuing education coordinator. The class will be held on Thursdays, Jan. 22- Feb. 26 from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Building, Room 205 on the Senatobia campus. Full story

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Art Department will hold its second annual Scholarship Art Competition and Exhibition Jan.

Savage named Adult Educator of year for DeSoto County

In just a little more than a year of being involved in adult education, Northwest Mississippi Community College Adult Basic Education Instructor Amy Savage has already made an impact. As a result of her work, the DeSoto County Economic and Development Council have named her the Southaven WIN Job Center Adult Educator of the Year for DeSoto County. While she said she was honored by the distinction, the most important reward is playing a part in helping adults obtain their General Education Diplomas and prepare for successful careers. Scientific Research Comes Alive for Northwest Students

Three Northwest Mississippi Community College science students got the opportunity to see the results of their instructors’ research outside the classroom recently, as the three attended the annual meeting of the Tennessee Academy of Science (TAS) in Nashville Nov. 20 - 22. When Major Davis portrays “Old Deuteronomy” in February in Northwest Mississippi Community College’s production of "Cats," it will be his third appearance on the Northwest stage. Spring Registration Dates Set For Northwest
Registration dates for Spring 2009 day and evening classes at Northwest Mississippi Community College have been announced by college officials.
Open registration for day classes (for students who have not previously registered) will be held on Jan. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at all campus locations including Senatobia, Southaven and Oxford. Evening school registration will be held on Jan. 6 and 7 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on all campuses.
Students who have not completed the pre-registration process must do so on Jan. 6 or 7.
Classes begin on Friday, Jan. 9. The college will close for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on Monday, Jan. 19 and classes will resume the following day. Late registration will continue through Friday, Jan. 16.
Tuition for full-time students is $850 per semester. For full time out- of-state students, there is an additional fee of $1,000. Cost per semester hour is as follows: in-state, $80; out-of -state, $155.
Residence Hall fees vary from $425 to $725 per semester. Meal plans vary from $175 to $825 per semester.

Existing Industry Training Program Will Benefit Local Employees

Northwest DEX students attend Collegiate Leadership Academy in New York
Northwest Mississippi Community College Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) students from DeSoto Center attended the Collegiate Leadership Academy in New York City Nov. 6-10. "Where Today's Students Become Tomorrow's Leaders" was the theme of the 2008 program. Full story.
