The Northwest Mississippi Community College Art Department will hold its second annual Scholarship Art Competition and Exhibition Jan.
26-30. Tuition scholarships to Northwest will be given to four winners.

The competition is open to all incoming freshman, according to Lawayne House, chairman of the Art Department. “This competition is open to anyone interested in pursuing an art degree, whether they be a high school student, or an adult interested in returning to school,” House said. All media is accepted and will be juried by the Northwest Art Faculty.

Each entrant must submit five works, all of which must be neatly matted or framed. Labels should be neatly taped to the top right back corner of each two-dimensional work and on the bottom of all three- dimensional work. Labels should list title of work, student’s name, high school (if applicable), student’s home address and student’s phone number.

The deadline for entries is Monday, Jan. 19. All entries must be delivered to the Northwest Art Gallery between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

An opening reception to announce the winners will be held on Monday, Jan. 26 from 6 - 7 p.m.

The Northwest Mississippi Community College Fine Arts Division offers classes in the fundamentals of Drawing; Painting; Ceramics; Art History; and Computer Graphics for individuals seeking opportunities for a career in the arts or for personal enrichment.
