August Reading Roundtable set “Orange Mint and Honey” by Carleen Brice kicks off the first meeting. This first novel by Brice concerns a burnt-out graduate student who wants to reconnect with her drunken failure of a mother. The challenge of their reconciliation is spun out in this funny, sad and perceptive novel. Crystal Giles, technical services librarian, will lead the discussion. All participants are required to fill out a registration form before the program. Forms are available at the library or by calling 662-562-3268. Those who wish to receive a copy of the book will need to pay $5. This payment can be attached to the registration form. Those who already own the book will need to register but will not be required to pay the $5 fee. Participants can share books or split the cost of the book. Books will be in limited supply, so those who register early will be assured a copy of the book. The purpose of the program is to provide a forum for senior adults to read and discuss a variety of books during the course of every semester. Discussions will be led by Northwest faculty, and the meetings will be held on the third or fourth Tuesday of each month. Sycamore Bank has donated funds for the program. The September Reading Roundtable will be held on Sept. 29 and will feature the book “The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty” by Eudora Welty. For more information, contact the Northwest library at 662-562-3268 or e-mail mrogers@northwestms.edu.
