Northwest offers Continuing Education Unit Classes in September

A variety of courses scheduled to begin in September at Northwest Mississippi Community College will offer Continuing Education Credits (CEUs), according to Continuing Education Coordinator Patricia Lowder. Several of the classes will be held on the main campus in Senatobia.

Design Your Own Spanish
(CEUs available) will be offered Sept. 10-Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Room 129. The purpose of this class, which is taught by Wendy Gregory, is to provide a setting where a group with a specific use for the Spanish language can attend and learn for their particular need. The $60 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Gregory will also be the instructor for Elementary Classroom Discipline (1.5 CEUs) starting Sept. 14-Oct. 26 from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Yalobusha Hall, Room 120. This class is targeted at K-5 teachers and will include information and discussions about classroom discipline, handling disruptive students, and working with parents on seeking solutions to behavioral problems. The $116 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Communicating through Internet and E-mail (1.5 CEUs) will be offered on Sept. 14-Oct. 26 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Room 130. Helen Williamson will be the instructor for this class. Participants will learn to surf the World Wide Web and perform a scavenger hunt to help refine Internet searching. They will learn to search the Internet effectively to find information, create an e-mail address on the free e-mail online programs like Google, Yahoo and more. The $105 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Word Processing I Using Microsoft 2003 (1.5 CEUs) will be taught by instructor Dianne Daley at the WIN Job Center in Tunica, Room 120 on Sept. 15-29 from 5-8 p.m. In this course, students will learn the most important topics of Microsoft Word and will be taken through step-by-step instructions. Students will learn how to create, edit, and format professional documents such as memos, fax cover sheets, business letters, and announcements. The $105 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Vista Basics (1.5CEUs) will be offered Sept. 15-Oct. 27 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Room 130. This class, which is taught by instructor Helen Williamson, is designed for adults who have little or no previous computer experience. General computer use and terminology will be discussed as participants learn basic skills in using Windows Vista. The $105 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Williamson will also be the instructor for Photoshop Elements 7 (1.5 CEUs) starting Sept. 16-Oct. 21 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Room 130. Students will learn to correct photos by editing, cropping and color correcting.  Participants will also learn how to combine photos and create a collage, or add special effects to photos. Correct photos that are scratched, torn or show too many wrinkles. Learn how to organize and burn your pictures to CD for future use. The $105 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Power Up with PowerPoint (1.5 CEUs), which is also taught by Williamson, will be offered on Sept. 17-Oct. 22 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Room 130. Participants will learn to quickly and efficiently develop dynamic, professional-looking presentations and then deliver them to an audience. They will be taught step-by-step how to combine text, graphics, and visual special effects on presentation slides. The $105 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.

Basic Conversational Spanish I (1.5 CEUs) will be taught by instructor Wendy Gregory at Yalobusha Hall, Room 120 on Sept. 19-Oct. 3 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. This class introduces the basics of how the Spanish language works. Students will learn what sounds the letters make and how to pronounce words. Basic rules of the Spanish language and grammar will also be taught. The $102 fee for this course includes the cost of the book.
